The first Africa Cup of Slam Poetry was held in N'Djamena, November 2018. 20 slamers came representing their countries to battle for the first continental trophy. After three days of intense competition, South Africa met Senegal in the final, and Al Faruq from Senegal became the first ever Africa Champion of Slam Poetry.

20 countries managed to get their candidates to the tournament. These were South Africa, Algeria, Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroun, Comores, Ethiopia, Gabon, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Morocco, Mauritania, Niger, Central African Republic, Senegal, Chad, and Togo.
