Paulo Matos - Candidate 2018

Paulo Matos, Poet name P.losophy was given to me randomly by a friend one day after I showed some of my poetry; the name stuck. It really just stands for Paulo’s Philosophy.
I never considered myself a poet as I always believed poets are writers that are constantly working on their craft and learn to improve their writing, whilst I just write down whatever comes to mind, whenever I want.

About Me: I was born in Maputo, Mozambique 1989. Moved to Ghana in 1996 and then to New York in 2000 where I lived until 2014. I now live in Mozambique.
I consider myself to be an expressive person. Hence I write poetry, play piano, dance, and practice martial arts which I my biggest passion. I have always considered poetry as a hobby.
The Inspiration: I originally got inspired to write poetry by watching poetry when a friend showed me a Def Poetry Jam video of Black Ice doing “Lone Soldier”. I had never heard of slam poetry and I thoroughly enjoyed how it sounded like poetry and rap combined. I gave writing a poem a try and since then its been a hobby, I will give the best of me to represent my country at the first edition of Africa Cup of Slam Poetry scheduled in Chad from 5 to 10 November 2018.
