Fatou Ellika Muloshi - National Ambassador
Fatou Ellika Muloshi works as a broadcast journalist at The Gambia Radio and Television Services (GRTS) as a reporter and Anchor. Fatou spent her teenage days combining academics with extracurricular activities and advocacy mostly focusing on child rights and youth empowerment dating back to her days in “young people in the media.” She is very passionate about the media and its important role in shaping our society and as a poet herself, she decided to use her platform to influence young poets.
She started the poetry slam in 2016 at the National TV broadcaster and gave young writers and performers to present on the first ever national poetry slam in The Gambia. The show has now become a household name and has inspired a lot of young people to take on writing and see poetry as a positive tool for self-expression and general advocacy while creating a professional niche for themselves. |
Omar Cham - Candidate 2018
Omar Cham Born in Bundung in 1994, he is the first winner of the National Poetry Slam of the Gambia and will be in Chad for the first edition of Africa Cup of Slam Poetry in November. He rose through the ranks of spoken word poetry, not just as a writer and a stage performer but also as an ambassador that has transformed the hype and value of poetry to different admirable levels in his country. Omar started his poetry journey as a keen writer, publishing with newspapers, magazines and co-authoring an anthology in 2014 before becoming a household name in the art. He has performed in the biggest stages in his country with a couple of representations: at the Thies international Festival in Senegal and the World Festival of Youths and Students in Russia, all in 2017. He has been invited as a guest poet in series of organizational, national and international conferences and seminars with few featuring in video and audio productions. Omar does poetry in diversified ways with the ability to portray deep emotions in his performances or inject you with a high level of humor on revolutionary, political, social, cultural and romantic themes. He is well known for his strength of word play, rhythmic flow and linguistic multiplicity forming the brand of his delivery. Omar is also a youth activist, a trainer and an actor, characters of which take their shares in every bid of his work. |
